| We have filled the Inn with much to share: poetry and literature to entertain and to enlighten you, artworks that are a wonder to behold, weavings and coverlets to snuggle on a crisp autumn eve and burnished antique furnishings that speak of home and security.
Beside the old road that has witnessed the courage of Minute Men, marching to first challenge the King's troops and fire "The shot heard 'round the world", Hawthorne Inn was raised [c.1870] on fertile earth once owned by Ralph Waldo Emerson, Louisa May Alcott and family, and Nathaniel Hawthorne.
This quaint 17th century village, that has engendered great thoughts and daring deeds, now welcomes you to a peaceful haven embraced by the gentle forces of creativity. We invite you to discover Henry Thoreau's Walden Pond, to saunter the woods and canoe the rivers, seek the shadows of authors at Sleepy Hollow Cemetery, explore museums and Colonial architecture, and take time to garner the many favors Concord, MA has to bestow.
The blush of fragrant gardens and cool shadows of stately trees embrace our colorful Inn where wayfarers, corporate travelers, and the romantic at heart find respite and refresh their spirit in a winsome atmosphere abounding with artworks, antiques and untold treasures. Join us as we bask near the whispering fire or, with a copy of LITTLE WOMEN or WALDEN in hand, are led by the resident cat to a garden seat for a spot of afternoon tea.
Our daily lives have been informed by those philosophers and writers who have owned and walked our property before us; Emerson, Hawthorne, Thoreau and the Alcotts. It has been our fortune, for over 25 years of innkeeping, to be able to share with our guests the feeling of joy we hold for this special place. It is our hope that, through our artwork, our observations and conversation and the ambiance of the Hawthorne Inn, we can convey to you a sense of the spirit of Concord.
Many blessings have been bestowed upon us since 1976 when we found a weary 19th century building, on a 1 ½ acre brook-side lot, and converted it, with the sweat of our brow, into the Hawthorne Inn. Labors and good fortune have made us rich in myriad ways for we have likewise been entrusted with the treasure of raising three children, granted the boon of friendships, tasted the bounty of the earth, bestowed with the wealth of spiritual fulfillment and known the gift of community. We give thanks for this benevolence and hope that our legacy can be goodness in kind, repaid with interest.
So, come and visit. Pet a dog, write a poem, enjoy your partner and think an original thought. |
